The Technology Behind Noam Urim

Needle Punch Technology

Needle punch technology is a cornerstone of Noam Urim’s nonwoven fabric production delivering quality materials designed to meet the demands of many industries such as filtration, automotive, geotextiles, hygiene, and agriculture.

Decades of expertise

With advanced production lines, Noam Urim produces a range of needle punched nonwoven fabrics for diverse industries. Our solutions can be tailored for tensile strength, abrasion resistance, thermal insulation, or softness, depending on client requirements.

How The Needle Punching Process Works

Needle punching is a mechanical bonding technique that interlocks loose fibers into a cohesive fabric using thousands of barbed needles. This process entangles the fibers through repeated penetration, forming a dense, strong, and dimensionally stable material.

Our needle punching multi-step process includes:

Web formation from synthetic or natural fibers (e.g., polyester, viscose,)
Mechanical entanglement via high-speed barbed needles
Thermal or chemical post-treatment (as needed) to enhance performance characteristics such as strength, permeability, or softness
Precise control over fiber orientation, density, thickness, and layering
The result: A high-performance nonwoven fabric engineered to meet precise needs across a wide range of applications.

Benefits of Needle Punch Nonwoven Fabric

Exceptional durability and dimensional stability
Highly customizable in terms of weight, thickness, and texture
Eco-friendly options using natural fibers or recycled content
High porosity and fluid management, ideal for filtration and hygiene
Versatile applications across technical and consumer markets
No chemical binders making it safer and more sustainable

FAQ

What is needle punch fabric and what is it used for?

Needle punch fabric is a type of nonwoven textile created by mechanically interlocking fibers with barbed needles, without weaving, knitting, or chemical bonding. It’s used across industries that demand durable, customizable, and absorbent materials including filtration media, geotextiles, automotive interiors, hygiene products, cleaning cloths, and agricultural applications.

How does the needle punching process work?

The needle punching process begins with a loose web of fibers, typically polyester, viscose, or a blend, which is then passed through a needle loom. Thousands of barbed needles penetrate the web at high speed, mechanically entangling the fibers into a dense, cohesive fabric. Optional thermal or chemical post-treatments can be applied to enhance strength, softness, or permeability.

What materials can be used in needle-punched nonwoven fabric?

Needle-punched nonwoven fabrics can be produced from a wide range of fibers, including polyester, viscose, polypropylene, recycled fibers, and natural fiber blends. The choice of fiber is driven by the end application, for example, recycled polyester for sustainable geotextiles.

Can Noam Urim develop a custom needle-punched nonwoven fabric for my application?

Yes. Custom development is central to Noam Urim’s offering. Our R&D team works with brands, OEMs, and converters to engineer needle-punched nonwoven fabrics tailored to specific performance requirements,  including tensile strength, filtration efficiency, absorbency, thickness, and finish. Contact us to start a custom development brief.

What industries use needle-punched textiles?

Needle-punched nonwoven fabric is used across filtration (industrial HVAC, cabin air, liquid filtration), automotive interiors, geotextiles and civil engineering, hygiene and personal care, cleaning products, medical applications, and agriculture.
